The OMNI Project
- Opportunities for Micronutrient Interventions. Organisation based in Washington which has focus on public health aspects of micronutrition nutrition, such as vitamin A, iodine, iron etc, particularly paediatric aspects. Their site gives information about the organisation and access to their publications (both on-line and to download). These vary from workshop reports on public health and regional perspectives, to practical manuals on fortofying sugar with viamin A.

Program Against Micronutrient Malnutrition
- In collaboration with OMNI (see above). The focus of PAMM is to assist countries with developing their own technical capacity and management systems. Group from Emory University with focus on eliminating micronutrient deficiency. "To accomplish these goals, PAMM works to build public-private sector alliances, strengthen regional and national education and training systems, raise awareness through advocacy at all levels, and to develop standards to establish quality assurance of national micronutrient programs." - Organisational information about the 5-a-day program, which is a
"national nutrition program to encourage Americans to eat 5 or more servings of fruits and
vegetables every day for better health. 5 A Day is sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, and
the Produce for Better Health Foundation, representing the fruit and vegetable industry, and
brought to life in every state and U.S. territory." The site is colourful and does have some recipes
and news, but for more educational material itself built around the 5-a-day concept see their general nutrition

Shape Up America!
- "A public health initiative of the Koop Foundation, a non-profit corporation. Headed by C. Everett Koop, M.D., the former Surgeon General of the United States. Launched in December 1994 to combat the rising rates of obesity in America." This site is a very well constructed and illustrated one focussing on healthy diet and exercise. It has sections which allow you to calculate your own BMI, to assess your fitness level,and to find out about different types of physical activity. There are also press releases, health professional informationand a variety of downloadable documents, including a nicely illustrated guide to healthy eating.
