Development Research Centre, Canada. Links to other centres with similar

MN-NET: bibliographies
- Micronutrient Initiative organisation: unannotated bibliographies on
vitamin A deficiency (long!), beta-carotene and cancer, iron and iodine deficiency. Some are
current to 1995, some don't go past 1992.

The OMNI Project
- Opportunities for Micronutrient Interventions. Organisation based in
Washington which has focus on public health aspects of micronutrition nutrition, such as vitamin
A, iodine, iron etc, particularly paediatric aspects. Their site gives information about the
organisation and access to their publications (both on-line and to download). These vary from
workshop reports on public health and regional perspectives, to practical manuals on fortofying
sugar with viamin A.

Program Against Micronutrient
Malnutrition
- In collaboration with OMNI (see above). The focus of PAMM is to
assist countries with developing their own technical capacity and management systems.
Group from Emory University with focus on eliminating micronutrient deficiency. "To accomplish
these goals, PAMM works to build public-private sector alliances, strengthen regional and national
education and training systems, raise awareness through advocacy at all levels, and to develop
standards to establish quality assurance of national micronutrient programs." This page is part of
the OMNI site and is descriptive only.

American Dietetic Association: position paper on vitamin and mineral supplementation
- Position paper takes into account current supplementation practices in the US and the state of research into antioxidant supplements as at 1995. As might be expected from this body, the position is conservative regarding supplements, advocating diet as the primary means of correcting nutritional problems.

- This web site offers abstracts from the medical literature as well as the summaries and articles of important research that appear in the VERIS newsletter, which is distributed inter alia to physicians by VERIS, is a service with pharmaceutical sponsorship which promotes information on antioxidant nutrients and their clinical benefits. The site also has a search engine for the articles on-line, and a few web links.

Victorian
Government's Report on "Clinical Applications of Antioxidant Nutrients"
- Full plain text version of a report released in September 1996 on the
use of antioxidant supplements. The report was prepared by a pharmacologist from the Public
Health Division within the Victorian State Department of Human Services in Australia. It offers a
solid review of the literature, partilcularly recent clinical trials. The report draws attention to
possible adverse and toxic effects of antioxidant supplementation, especially vitamin A, and is
generally not supportive of unregulated long term antioxidant supplementation at this stage. Thereport, it should also be said, has generated some controversy in Australia, with some voices
claiming different conclusions and interpretations can be made from the research
literature.
