USDA: flat Food Composition data set (flat)
USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference: A simple search engine from FNIC for accessing USDA nutrient data base. Look up items by names of foods. No RDI values given, but can choose between 100gm and up to 5 serving quantities (where there are at least that many options given - which some foods do have available)."This interface allows simple searches. Enter one keyword which best describes your food item or the NDB No."

`Fatfree' search engine: Simple but effective search engine for the USDA Nutrient Database. Enter single search term and the engine returns list of items for selection. These have nutrient values for 100 gram portions as well as two common serving sizes. As well as absolute values, gives nutrient content as % RDA (for adult males and females). The original site appear to be non-functional.
Medaccess: front end to USDA food tables: Friendly front end to USDA data base, gives range of foods and then very wide range of data for 100gm.
NutriBase Interactive On-Line Nutritional Information Database: Based on USDA data base and focussing on macronutrients, allows some interesting search options, e.g. ranking by amount of individual nutrient, search for Boolean nutrient criteria as well as listing individual foods.

Fast Food nutrient content: interactive engine: Great! An interactive engine into which you enter food details, it responds with kcals, fat and salt content.
Fruit and Vegetable nutrition content: Nutritional content of a range of fruits and vegetables. Shows content in food label format (macronutrients, vitamins A and C, calcium and iron, sodium and potassium), together with food picture. Part of the 5-a-day program and entertaining.
Medlife: Food labels nutrient content data base: More than 16,000 food labels with the nutrient content in this searchable data base put together by MediLife. They are a company which creates and markets consumer self care software and interactive online resources. Their particular interests are diabetes, weight control and preventive nutrition. The site is well designed and also has a cardiovascular risk assessment fitness assessment, course on diabetes complications. Well worth a good look.
Nutrition Analysis Tool: On-line dietary nutrient analysis. A little awkward because of delays in web exchange, as food choices and quantities move to and fro.
Simtel nutrition data base shareware: Several nutrition data base programs come up on this list of over 20 nutrition shareware programs for MS-DOS. There are similar programs for Windows 3.1 and Win95 .

President Clinton's Food Safety Strategy: A draft document from FDA/CFSAN which forms the basis for President Clinton's food safety strategy. Comments are invited by the FDA until April 4, 1997.
Centre for Food Safety Applied Nutrition (FDA): Information and links on biotechnology, cosmetics, food additives, food and supplement labelling, women's health and seafood.
USDA: food safety and preservation publications: All the publications are in Adobe Acrobat format, but includes link to download Adobe reader software.
USDA/FDA Foodborne Illness Education Information Center: Information about the Center, plus links to many good food safety resources, both lay and professional, including the Foodborne Illness Database and the HAACP database.
